JAMSPACE is a freeform room where we throw down some keyboards, guitars, mics, amps, PA's, bass, lights, and drums, and basically let anyone play whatever they want for a little slot of time. There's a nice summary by one attendee from Otakon on the Otakon message board:

From video game music to anime intro tunes (in Japanese and English), from mini-raves and shameless danceoffs, from jazz and rock bands forming on the spot to folks who'd been playing together for years... Yeah. It was all there. ... For those of us who ended up hanging around and making some music, it was probably the best part of the con. The dynamic of the music played went from silly to hardcore to irreverent and all the way back to folksy and jazz--we even had one gal who brought her saxophone all the way from FLORIDA, and a metal band who did original songs in Japanese!!

PENNY ARCADE EXPO, Boston, MA, USA, March 26 - 28 2010

We're going to PAX! Yea! It's seriously going to be that awesome.

Otakon #17, Baltimore, MD, USA July 30th-August 1st, 2010

Jamspace returns to Otakon for another round of game music and anime jamming. Also keep on the lookout for some other intense game-music related news about Otakon soon.

MAGFEST 9, Washington DC, USA January 2011

We have even bigger plans this year, and the chiptunes and videogame music DJ sets will be moved into the MAIN CONCERT HALL for 2 nights of epic game music win, in addition to the rock concerts.

Look for Jamspace this year at Magfest: The music and gaming festival.

Past Jamspaces at various conventions

MAGFEST 7, January 2009

Incredible results on Jamspace v2 this year. We have tons of pics and video of the entire sessions that we'll be posted once we get them edited. Thanks to everyone who performed.

MAGFEST 6, January 2008

THE BIRTH OF JAMSPACE, and it's original home, will always be at Magfest. We had amazing results from this musician's festival for musicians. We hosted what was essentially a 24/7 non-stop videogame music jam session.

IN addition to the live jams we also hosted:

  • Live chiptunes concert with Virt, ESD + Spamtron, and Wizwards
  • Open-mic concert featuring Select Start, Shael Riley + Glenn Case, DJ Q-pa, and tons of others

Otakon #15, August 2008

Otakon let us run this from 7am-7pm in the same hall as the Rave. At Otakon it wasn't called Jamspace to avoid conflicts with a band there called The Jam Project, but instead we called it Club Otaku: Jamspace.

Notable things:

  • Cool jam with the voice of Dean Venture from the Venture Brothers (Michael Sinterniklaas) and the director of the Pokemon TV Series.
  • Live 30 minute videogame music rave played by Dom and Noah on keys + bass + drums
  • Awesome sets by insanely talented attendees including Vincent Diamante
  • Impromptu performances by bands:
    • Geist (Baltimore based j-pop/rock)
    • Dom's own Rare Candy (Baltimore based videogame music band)
    • NYC based band Knights Of The Round
